FISIP UPNVJ – On Friday, May 19, 2023, students from International Relations Study Program UPN Veteran Jakarta visited VOI (Voice of Indonesia) Radio Republik Indonesia as part of a class excursion. The goal of the trip to VOI, which is at No. 4-5 Jalan Merdeka Barat, was to increase the students’ familiarity with the use of English in news production and broadcasting.

The representative faculty advisor from UPNVJ, Jati Satrio, S.IP. MA, gave a speech upon their arrival at VOI in which he expressed gratitude for the chance given by VOI to observe the news production process and the usage of English in broadcasting. The field trip’s goal was also explained by Mr. Jati as a component of the experiential learning in the English for Professional Purposes course, notably in the area of news production and delivery in English.

During the same occasion, the Head of Voice of Indonesia RRI, Drs. Soleman Yusuf, MM, delivered a speech and expressed support for the field trip. He also explained the significant role of the English in VOI’s international broadcasts. As one of the nine languages used in VOI’s foreign broadcasts, Mr. Soleman also highlighted the possible chances for UPN foreign Relations students who are interested in pursuing internships there.

The field trip activities at VOI, which lasted for three hours, included a tour of various rooms such as the newsroom, language desk, recording studio, and live broadcasting studio. Students were also given the opportunity to engage in Q&A sessions with staff members in each department. The field trip concluded with observing a live English broadcast.
