FisipUPNVJ –The Faculty of Social and Political Science at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta is proud to announce the 4th Jakarta International Conference on Social and Humanities (JICoSSH), to be held on October 3, 2024. This year’s theme is Strengthening Youth Activism and Resilience as an ICT-Based Society, a vital conversation in today’s fast-paced digital world.

The conference will bring together esteemed speakers from across the globe to share their insights and research on topics such as digital citizenship, social media mobilization, grassroots activism, and the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in empowering youth movements.

Keynote speakers include:

– Prof. Chua Beng Huat from the National University of Singapore

– Maria E. Atienza, Ph.D. from the University of the Philippines Diliman

– Prof. Dr. Kamarulnizam Abdullah from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia

– Sri L. Wahyuningroem, Ph.D., from UPN Veteran Jakarta

The conference will focus on sub-themes such as:

– Digital Citizenship and Political Engagement

– Youth-Led Digital Advocacy Campaigns

– ICT and Grassroots Activism

– Online Activism and Freedom of Expression

– Digital Resilience in the Face of Disinformation and Misinformation

These topics highlight the need to understand and empower the younger generation, especially as ICT has transformed how they engage with social and political issues. As part of the Dean’s opening remarks, Dr. S. Istiyanto Bekti emphasized:

“As we delve into the discussions of youth activism, it is vital to recognize the pivotal role that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) play in empowering young people. From grassroots movements to global campaigns, youth today are mobilizing, advocating, and demanding change with unprecedented speed and reach. The digital era has enabled activism to transcend traditional barriers, connecting like-minded individuals across geographies and creating a shared platform for causes ranging from social justice to environmental sustainability.”

The conference is held at the Mercure Hotel Jakarta Simatupang, with sessions designed to foster collaboration between researchers, practitioners, and activists, and registration is open to local and international participants. Papers submitted will be published in recognized international indexing services such as Web of Science, CrossRef, and Google Scholar.

This year’s event promises to be an exciting opportunity to share research, foster new collaborations, and advance understanding of youth activism and ICT’s transformative role in social and political movements.
